Mount Hope Books is an internet-only bookstore with a wide selection of used, out-of-print and collectible titles. From the casual reader to the history buff to the academic researcher, we have books to suit every interest. Although many colleagues have counseled us to specialize in one genre or subject, we just can't choose! Our current favorites include Americana with its quirky stories of small town history, Children's Literature with its myriad of amazing illustrators, and Literature in Translation where our collective imagination is fed by a crosscurrent of cultures.
Mount Hope Books is not a metaphorical title; not a portal into the worlds of alchemy and metaphysics (although some of our books might be!). Nope, it's just a geographical namesake, borrowed from our village in eastern Connecticut and the little river that meanders through it. The river is crystalline and stocked with trout -- for those of you who care about such things.
We generally stock books that we would want to read ourselves(some day) . The majority of our books are in very good to fine condition. We strive to describe our books accurately and disclose all major and most minor defects including creases, tears, foxing, soil, fading, writing or markings, shaken bindings, price-clipping, chipping, rubbing, etc. The term first edition is only used when we have researched that publisher's method for designating first editions. We generally use the terms first edition and first printing interchangeably. Book Club Editions or library discards are explicitly identified in the descriptions.
