A' Benevoli by Giambatista Bodoni dated Parma, 1788. Preface by Abbot Pierantonio Serassi. The Aminta came to represent the pastoral tradition, but the play also depends heavily upon the tradition of the pastoral in Latin and Italian writers. Many of the lines are attributable to Virgil's Eclogues and, to a lesser extent, his Georgics, to Ovid, and others. the Aminta is essentially a play about love, or, perhaps, about lovers and the effects that love has on them.(Source, Malcolm Hayward 1997). The cover shows nicks, short cuts, abrasions; light soil. Corner tips are lightly bumped; 1" split in cloth at each end of spine. Binding solid though stitching is stretched at front endpapers and endpaper seam is separated. All pages present. Rather large, but light, damp staining on preliminaries, title page, and next dozen or so pages; smaller damp-stain on bottom edge of approximately half the pages in the book. Relatively clean; quite bright. Faint foxing on a few pages. 29082
