Illustrations by Harley, inc. frontis and several plates. Bright cover; lovely intact gilt design; firmly bound. Light wear to extremities. Interior quite crisp, clean. Previous owner's name written in pencil on blank flypage; otherwise unmarked. Author de Kroyft was known as "The Blind Authoress of New York". She became widowed on her wedding day and soon after was struck by an illness that rendered her blind. She began to support herself through writing articles and books, many autobiographical, and culminated in her book The Soul of Eve, which argued the superiority of women. The story of Little Jakey is about a young Italian blind boy, rescued from a shipwreck off the New Jersey coast. His parents were both artists and he spoke German, Italian, and later learned English in New York. Packaged with care and shipped in a box. 28027
