(Thus far unable to find a bibliography listing the actual title of this set which includes many of his non-fiction books; the number of volumes and their individual titles in this series; not in BAL). Titles originally published from 1892-1897 and reprinted in a set in 1898. All 5 volumes handsomely bound in green cloth with orange title blocks and gilt lettering & design on spines; top edges yellow. All volumes nicely illustrated in black & white except for Van Bibber and Others (the only fiction title). Gilt on spine bright & intact. Bindings very tight, most corners sharp. Covers are rubbed & slightly discolored near edges of boards and edges of spine. Interiors very clean & remarkably bright but for light toning on endpapers; no names or markings. Top edge of text block lightly dust soiled. Harding was a noted travel journalist and later a war correspondent during the Spanish War and the Spanish-American War in Cuba, the Greco-Turkish War, the Boer War, and the beginnings of World War I. The two Hulce/Hulse/Hulst progenitors, Elisha and James, are NOT related. Elisha's ancestors were of English origin; some of his descendants use the Hulse, Hultz, and Huylcee spellings of the surname. James is thought to be of Dutch origin. 27144
